The founding general assembly of the joint-stock sugar company, named Tafadis, was held this Sunday at the headquarters of Madar-Holding in Algiers, in the presence of its Chairman and CEO, Mr. Amara Charaf-Eddine, and members of the board of directors of the newly created company.

As a member of the Madar group, Tafadis was thus established on March 12, 2023, with the purpose of refining, producing, and marketing sugar.

Its headquarters are located in Larbaâtache, in the Boumerdès province. The initial capital is set at 10 billion dinars.

Mr. Ahmed Drai has been appointed CEO of Tafadis and was elected Chairman of the Board of Directors by the members present.

Tafadis, whose launch and production start-up schedule has already been defined, will employ 1,200 workers at its launch.

The CEO of Madar-Holding stated that the name Tafadis comes from the root "afdhess", which means, in its various regional declensions: to break, split, smash, crush, pulverize, or grind using a hammer or mallet.

The root "afdhess" gave rise to "thafdhist", meaning hammer.

It is a cultural symbol of the sugar civilization in our country and its Sahelian extension.

As Mr. Amara Charaf-Eddine put it, it is "a sort of sugar jewel".
